"Pavers, what are they? What are the benefits of using pavers? How long do they last? What shapes do they take and what color can I get them in?"
All of these questions come up when we mention pavers as a possible product for a client's landscape project. In short, pavers are a concrete product that is mixed with a coloring agent and then placed in a mold to set and dry into various shapes, sizes, textures, and patterns. Specifically in the Pacific Northwest, pavers are a superior outdoor patio, walkway, and driveway surface. Pavers come in such a vast variety of sizes, shapes, colors and patterns, that your creative possibilities are somewhat limitless. In the Spokane and Coeur d'Alene area in particular, the 'frost heave' action that occurs in our soils from our harsh winters and hot summers, wreaks havoc on concrete surfaces; driveways, walkways, and patios all can be affected. When placed, concrete is one solid piece, and does not have the same flexibility that a segmental paver patio or driveway does. This then causes the major cracking, flaking, and ultimately, major failures within the concrete area when soil settling or heavy frosts occur.
Pavers provide flexibility, both as an installed product and on your pocket book. With an assortment of product choices, we recommend using pavers and paver block products whenever possible or applicable on your landscape project. Pavers are easily maintained and have limited upkeep when installed correctly, take a look at our informational paver video and give us a call today to get started on your next paver patio, walkway, or driveway today!
